Report: Big Dom Steps In to Separate Nick Sirianni and Zach Ertz After Postgame Altercation

Commanders tight end Zach Ertz and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had a brief tenure together in Philadelphia, as Ertz was traded during Sirianni’s inaugural year as the Eagles’ head coach. Recent events suggest some lingering tensions may have resurfaced following Sunday’s game between Ertz’s current team and his former one.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sirianni and Ertz engaged in an altercation during postgame handshakes, requiring intervention from Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a comment made by Sirianni regarding Ertz’s performance during the game, prompting Ertz to express his displeasure. Following the altercation, Sirianni reached out to Ertz via a Zoom call to offer an apology.

Ertz was a key player for the Eagles from 2013 until 2021. His final season in Philadelphia coincided with Sirianni’s first as head coach, after which he was traded to the Cardinals following six games. To date, neither Ertz nor Sirianni has provided clarification on the nature of their disagreement.

DiSandro, affectionately known as Big Dom, previously found himself in the spotlight when he was removed from the sideline last season due to a confrontation with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. In this instance, however, it seems that DiSandro acted as a mediator rather than an instigator.
