Lions Release Linebacker Kwon Alexander
As reported by Adam Schefter, the Detroit Lions have officially waived linebacker Kwon Alexander.
According to Schefter, the Lions are interested in potentially re-signing Alexander to their practice squad if he goes unclaimed by other teams.
Kwon Alexander, now 30, was originally selected in the fourth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He recently completed the last year of a four-year contract worth $2.75 million before signing a four-year deal valued at $54 million with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019.
During the 2020 season, he was traded to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional fifth-round draft pick. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles late that season, leading to his release.
Following this, Alexander returned to the Saints on a one-year deal, then joined the New York Jets for the 2022 season. He later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in July 2023 before landing on the Denver Broncos practice squad in September of the same year. The Lions acquired him a few weeks ago.
This season, Alexander has participated in three games with the Broncos and two with the Lions, collectively recording 12 total tackles, one forced fumble, and one recovery.
