In addition to Layne’s placement, the Giants are also activating offensive lineman Austin Schlottmann and defensive lineman Armon Watts from injured reserve to the 53-man roster. Furthermore, outside linebacker Boogie Basham has been elevated from the practice squad for Week 17’s matchup against the Colts.

Layne, a 25-year-old player, initially signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana following the 2022 NFL Draft. After being waived and spending time on the practice squad, he was signed to the active roster in December 2023.

In August 2024, the Giants acquired Layne as an unrestricted free agent. After being waived following training camp, he remained on the practice squad before being signed to the active roster in December.

This season, Layne has participated in two games for the Giants, totaling three tackles.
