Aaron Rodgers: “I Would Love to Mentor a Rookie QB if the Jets Choose a Replacement”

Aaron Rodgers, at 41 years old, faces an uncertain future in the NFL, but he has expressed a willingness to mentor a rookie quarterback should he remain with the New York Jets in 2025.

Rodgers stated, “So if [the Jets] asked me back and they drafted a guy, I’d mentor the hell out of him if I was playing and I’d try to play as well as I could to keep him on the bench,” according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

This attitude contrasts greatly with his reaction when the Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round back in 2020. Rogers responded to that competition by winning MVP awards in both 2020 and 2021, which delayed Love’s rise as the franchise quarterback.

Reflecting on the past, Rodgers remarked, “When they drafted Jordan, I felt like I was one bad stretch from being benched—and I won MVP a couple of years, so that’s the way the league is. You have to prove you can play every single week and through stretches.”

Sadly, the path forward doesn’t seem bright for Rodgers, who currently has a 4-10 record as a starter this season with the Jets. With the recent firings of general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh, the organization may be looking at significant changes in the upcoming offseason.

Rodgers’ future with the team remains uncertain, as he himself expresses doubts.

Rodgers noted, “I’m going to take some time after the year—unless I get released right away—but I’ll still take some time to consider whether I want to play.” He emphasized the need for a break from the game to reflect on his future.

As the conclusion of the 2024 season approaches, uncertainty surrounds the Jets, potentially leading to the search for a new franchise quarterback.

If Rodgers returns in 2025, that opportunity could usher in a future Pro Bowler benefitting from his mentorship.
