Uiagalelei enjoyed three seasons at Clemson, followed by a year at Oregon State, and concluded his collegiate journey with the Seminoles this past season.
Throughout his career, he amassed 9,384 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions, while also contributing 1,124 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.
His career-best season came in 2023 at Oregon State, where he threw for 2,638 yards and seven touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 219 yards and six touchdowns. After a coaching change, he transferred to Florida State.
The expectations were high for the Seminoles following a remarkable 2023 season and the acquisition of a highly regarded quarterback from the transfer portal, but things did not unfold as anticipated in Tallahassee.
Unfortunately, Uiagalelei’s season was hindered by injuries, limiting him to just five games. During this stretch, he threw for 1,065 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions, leading the Seminoles to only one victory. Florida State finished the year with a disappointing 2-10 record, significantly down from their previous 13-1 season.
While Uiagalelei is eager to pursue a career in the NFL, he also holds an option in another sport. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected him in the 20th round of the MLB draft in 2023 due to his high school baseball background.
According to Dodgers’ area scouting supervisor Jonah Rosenthal, “Honestly, he could have been a top-couple-round guy if he stuck with baseball,” as reported by MLB.com’s Sarah Wexler. “But he became a five-star quarterback at Clemson, and when you have that status, you obviously run with the football.”
If Uiagalelei doesn’t find success in the NFL, he may consider giving baseball another chance.
