Jets Set to Interview Ron Rivera for Head Coach Position
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the New York Jets are set to interview former Panthers and Washington HC Ron Rivera for their head coaching vacancy.
Rivera is currently the first candidate scheduled for an interview, with the Jets also expected to meet with Rex Ryan regarding the position.
At 62 years old, Rivera was a second-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 1984, playing several seasons with the team before beginning his coaching career with the Bears in 1997. He later worked with the Eagles and Chargers before being hired as the head coach of the Panthers in 2011.
During his nine seasons with the Panthers, Rivera achieved a record of 76-63-1, which includes four playoff appearances and a trip to the Super Bowl following the 2015 season. He was honored as the AP Coach of the Year twice before he was let go after the 2019 season.
Shortly thereafter, Rivera was appointed head coach of Washington, where he recorded a 26-40-1 record in four seasons.
Overall, Rivera holds a career record of 102-103-2 (.498 winning percentage) over 13 seasons, including five playoff appearances (3-5 record).
