The Sunday Night Football matchup between the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons carried significant NFL playoff implications.

With their thrilling 30-24 overtime victory, the Commanders secured a playoff position and inadvertently helped the Los Angeles Rams clinch the NFC West title due to tiebreaker scenarios.

Even games in Week 17 that did not involve playoff contenders made headlines, as pivotal results altered the landscape of the 2025 NFL draft order.

Despite the New York Giants celebrating their 45-33 triumph over the Indianapolis Colts, it significantly impacted their draft positioning, dropping them from the No. 1 pick to No. 4.

Currently at No. 1 are the New England Patriots, who are set to face a Buffalo Bills team in Week 18 likely to rest its starters.

The Tennessee Titans remain competitive for the top pick after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Cleveland Browns also share a 3-13 record as they head into Week 18—keen on remaining ahead of the draft-needy Giants.

Giants’ Victory Disrupts Draft Order

As Week 17 approached, the New York Giants seemed secure in their hold on the No. 1 draft pick, being the sole two-win team in the league. A loss in their final games would have solidified their top position.

The Giants’ chances of securing the first overall pick appeared so strong that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders revealed he owns a custom pair of cleats in Giants colors, although he chose not to wear them before his last college match in the Alamo Bowl.

However, after their 45-33 win against the Indianapolis Colts, the Giants finished at 3-13, leveling with New England, Tennessee, and Cleveland. Due to strength of schedule, they have slid to No. 4 in the draft order.

The Giants will face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road in Week 18.
