Browns’ Consulting Agreement with Mike Vrabel Concluded Today
Adam Schefter has reported that the consulting agreement between the Browns and former NFL head coach Mike Vrabel has officially ended. As a result, he is now eligible to interview for head coaching positions across the league.
Jonathan Jones has also highlighted that the Bears, Jets, and Saints currently have head coaching openings, and he anticipates that all three teams will seek dialogue with the former Titans head coach.
Additionally, Jones has noted a lot of interest in Vrabel as a leading candidate for upcoming coaching positions, believing that the chances are high for him to secure another role in the NFL.
He expresses skepticism about Vrabel’s interest in taking a position at Ohio State, even if one becomes available, despite his ties as an alum and previous coach there.
Regarding his preferences, Jones suggests that Vrabel is likely to prefer joining a team with an established general manager. The Jets will be hiring a new GM alongside a coach, while it seems that Bears GM Ryan Poles and Saints GM Mickey Loomis will retain their positions at least through 2025.
At 49 years old, Vrabel began his coaching career as the linebackers coach at Ohio State in 2011 after a successful 14-year playing stint as a linebacker with the Steelers, Patriots, and Chiefs.
Following his tenure with the Buckeyes, Vrabel joined the Texans in 2014 as their linebackers coach, eventually being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2017. He became the head coach of the Titans in 2018.
After being let go by Tennessee last offseason, Vrabel spent the 2024 season as a personnel consultant with the Browns.
During his six years with the Titans, Vrabel achieved a record of 52-41, with three playoff appearances and a 2-3 postseason record. Notably, he was honored as the Coach of the Year in 2021.
Stay tuned for more updates on Vrabel as further news becomes available.
