As reported by Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have successfully claimed defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis off waivers from the Washington Commanders.

This former second-round pick is known for his ability to stuff runs at the defensive tackle position, providing the Jets with an affordable, developmental player moving forward.

At 26 years old, Mathis was selected by the Commanders in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft after a successful career at Alabama.

He was in the midst of a four-year rookie contract worth $7.5 million, carrying a base salary of $1,046,199 for the 2024 season when he was waived by Washington in December.

During the 2024 season, Mathis participated in 12 games for the Commanders, accumulating 17 total tackles and a pass defended.
