Brock Purdy Expected to Miss Week 18 but Dodges Major Elbow Injury
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has confirmed that quarterback Brock Purdy sidestepped a significant elbow injury during the team’s recent loss to the Detroit Lions, according to Matt Maiocco.
Shanahan stated that Purdy is experiencing some inflammation in the nerves of his elbow following a hit; however, this condition is not anticipated to cause lasting issues. Nonetheless, Purdy is unlikely to participate in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals.
The 49ers are planning a significant contract extension for Purdy this offseason, and any concerns regarding his injury should not complicate negotiations. Read more about his impending raise here.
Purdy, who is just 25 years old, was selected by the 49ers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft from Iowa State. He signed a four-year rookie contract worth $3.7 million, which came with a signing bonus of $77,012.
Looking ahead, Purdy is projected to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
In the 2024 season, Purdy played in 15 games, completing 65.9% of his pass attempts for a total of 3,864 yards, alongside 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Additionally, he rushed 66 times for 323 yards and five touchdowns.
