NFC Insights: Kyle Shanahan, 49ers, Rams, and Seahawks
49ers
The owner of the 49ers, Jed York, has recently expressed strong confidence in Head Coach Kyle Shanahan and General Manager John Lynch. He reassured fans and analysts alike that neither are at risk of losing their jobs this offseason. Shanahan noted that his positive relationship with York remains intact despite swirling speculations regarding his job security, which, according to him, has not affected the team’s locker room morale.
“I’ve got a good relationship with Jed, and we speak almost every day, so hearing stuff in the media doesn’t really change much for me,” Shanahan stated in an interview with 49ersWebZone. “It’s more about the dynamic between him and myself.”
He went on to emphasize that he has always maintained a consistent rapport with York, even amid this season’s challenges.
“Yeah, definitely. No, Jed is very easy to talk to. We’ve known each other here for now eight years, and we feel very fortunate for how he is through the good and the bad. And the communication really never changes, regardless of what’s going on.”
Rams
Rams Head Coach Sean McVay is optimistic about WR Puka Nacua, who he believes has shown significant improvement in his second year due to his consistency and accountability on the field.
“I think so. I think there’s been a consistency. I think there’s an ability to understand and impact the game,” McVay remarked during a discussion on the team’s YouTube channel. “He was tremendous last year, and I think he was learning and growing. One of the things I love about him is the accountability that he always takes. I think he’s caught the ball consistently well, and he’s had a lot of different targets. His incredible catches have stood out, and the work he’s put in is evident. Although stats can be misleading, what really matters is his performance on each snap and how well he adapts to what’s being asked of him. He’s definitely gotten better in Year 2 and has developed a special rapport with Matthew.”
Seahawks
- Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf expressed that they’re focusing on ending Week 18 strong, saying: “One more chance for this team to put a finished product on the field, try to get Coach Macdonald to 10 wins.” (Michael-Shawn Dugar)
- Seahawks LB Ernest Jones IV, who is set to become a free agent, stated his desire to return to Seattle next season: “I love it here; I would love to be here.” (John Boyle)
- Coach Macdonald confirmed that they do not plan to play QB Sam Howell in Week 18, as reported by Dugar.
