The Patriots have already indicated their commitment to Maye as the starting quarterback for the upcoming season. In Week 18, they may opt to give playing time to sixth-round pick Joe Milton, who has yet to take the field this year despite being on the roster.

Drake Maye, 22, excelled during his time at North Carolina, where he earned first-team All-ACC honors and was named the ACC Player of the Year in 2022. The Patriots selected him with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

He signed a lucrative four-year contract worth $35,771,205, featuring a signing bonus of $22,835,422, and he is slated to have a cap hit of $6,503,855 for the 2024 season. Additionally, the deal includes a fifth-year option that the team can exercise in 2028.

In his rookie season, Maye has made appearances in 12 games, completing 66% of his passes for 2,276 yards, with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has also showcased his mobility, rushing 54 times for 421 yards and scoring two touchdowns.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Patriots’ quarterback situation as they unfold.
