Jets Conclude Interview with Ron Rivera for Head Coach Position
The New York Jets have officially conducted an interview with former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera for their open head coaching position.
Rivera is the Jets’ first scheduled interviewee, with plans to meet with Rex Ryan for the same position in the near future.
At 62 years old, Rivera was a second-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 1984. He spent several seasons with the team before transitioning into coaching, starting as an assistant with the Bears in 1997. He then moved on to coaching roles with the Eagles and Chargers, ultimately becoming the head coach of the Panthers in 2011.
During his nine seasons with the Panthers, Rivera accumulated a record of 76-63-1, including four playoff appearances and a Super Bowl run following the 2015 season. He was honored as the AP Coach of the Year twice before the Panthers parted ways with him after the 2019 season.
Shortly thereafter, Rivera was appointed as head coach of Washington, where he recorded a 26-40-1 record over four seasons.
Overall, Rivera’s coaching career boasts a record of 102-103-2, achieving a winning percentage of .498 and five playoff appearances with a 3-5 record in postseason play.
