Uncertain Future for Jets WR Garrett Wilson in New York?
According to Ian Rapoport, there are concerns both within and outside the Jets organization regarding the dynamics between WR Garrett Wilson and QB Aaron Rodgers.
Recently, Wilson voiced his frustration regarding his limited role in the offense, and Rapoport noted that he and Rodgers have struggled to reconnect since a well-publicized clash during training camp.
The acquisition of WR Davante Adams has further relegated Wilson in the offensive hierarchy, yet there is speculation that both Rodgers and Adams could return in 2025, following a more favorable few weeks, according to Rapoport.
If that scenario unfolds, Rapoport suggests that Wilson might contemplate requesting a trade.
Furthermore, Rapoport highlighted that Jets owner Woody Johnson is a significant admirer of Wilson and would need to approve any trade. However, there would likely be considerable interest in Wilson if he becomes available, similar to the intrigue he attracted during the recent trade deadline, as referenced here.
The former first-round pick has expressed some doubts about his future with the Jets, and earlier reports indicated that team officials have long suspected that Wilson might prefer a trade over negotiating a new contract.
At just 24, Wilson was honored as first-team All-Big Ten in 2020 and a first-team All-American in 2021 before declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft after his junior season at Ohio State. The Jets selected him with the No. 10 overall pick in that draft.
He signed a four-year contract worth $20,554,004, which includes a signing bonus of $12,128,366. There is also a fifth-year option for the team to exercise in 2025.
In the 2024 season, Wilson has participated in 15 games with the Jets, recording 90 receptions on 141 targets for 987 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
We will continue to provide updates on the Jets and Wilson as more information becomes available.
