This move effectively concludes Rankins’ 2024 season, as he has been unavailable for several weeks due to illness.
At 30 years old, Rankins was drafted as a first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2016. He was entering the last year of his four-year, $12.8 million contract when the Saints exercised his fifth-year option, valued at $7.7 million for the 2020 season.
Prior to the start of the 2020 regular season, New Orleans restructured Rankins’ contract, which allowed him to enter free agency in 2021. He subsequently signed a two-year deal worth up to $17 million with the New York Jets.
In 2023, Rankins signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Houston Texans before joining the Bengals on a two-year deal this past offseason.
During the 2024 season, Rankins participated in seven games for the Bengals, accumulating 18 total tackles and one sack.
