AFC Updates: C.J. Stroud, Texans, and Colts Insights

Colts

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson recently shared insights about the significant differences in physicality between college football and the NFL. He emphasized the intensity of the hits he experiences at the professional level compared to his college days.

“From the start of the season, you feel those hits the next day,” Richardson explained, as reported by James Boyd of The Athletic. “It’s strange because I told my family that in college, I didn’t really get sore. But in the NFL, it’s a different game. You have grown men playing football, and getting tackled by them is always a new experience. It’s all part of the job, and you have to keep adjusting and maintain your body to perform at your best.”

Texans

  • After the Texans suffered a 31-2 defeat against the Ravens, QB C.J. Stroud took responsibility for missing key throws: “I just kept missing. I wasn’t making the throws. At the same time, I need to stand in there stronger and deliver those passes. There were some miscommunications with the receivers, but ultimately, it falls on me to make the throw when guys are open.” (Aaron Wilson)
  • Reflecting on the difference between his performance in 2024 and his rookie season, Stroud noted the challenges of injuries and missed opportunities: “I think I’ve approached the game similarly. I’m seeing it better than ever. However, being a bit banged up has impacted my ability to make plays. That’s not a good excuse; I just need to make the plays when they count.” (Wilson)
  • Stroud described the loss to Baltimore as one of the worst games of his career: “That was terrible on my part. Probably one of my worst games ever. I came out flat, lacked energy, and didn’t lead the offense as I should have. I need to reflect on my performance honestly; it simply wasn’t good enough today. It is what it is, and I can’t hang my head. I just need to keep pushing forward.” (Wilson)

Texans Defense

Texans defensive end Danielle Hunter commented on the team’s defense strategy against Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry.

They’re exceptional football players,” said Hunter, via PFT. “Lamar is a dual threat, and Derrick Henry is the best in his position. We really needed a better game plan to deal with such talented players.”
