As reported by Ian Rapoport, the Indianapolis Colts are set to enter the 2025 offseason with quarterback Anthony Richardson as their presumed starter.

While this might seem obvious, it’s important to note that the Colts previously benched Richardson this season due to concerns over his health and accuracy. Thus, this vote of confidence is key.

Rapoport indicates that the Colts are encouraged by Richardson’s response to being benched, as well as the progress he has demonstrated over recent weeks.

The expectation is that with a full offseason dedicated to development—rather than concentrating on rehab—and the entire offensive staff returning, Richardson could be poised for a breakout season in 2025.

At just 22 years old, Richardson declared for the NFL draft after his redshirt sophomore season in 2022, where he was a full-time starter at Florida. The Colts selected him with the 4th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He signed a four-year contract worth $36,874,031, which includes a signing bonus of $23,817,477. For the 2023 season, he carries a cap figure of $6,704,369, with the Colts also holding the option for a fifth year in 2026.

Unfortunately, Richardson had to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery to repair his AC joint after an injury sustained in Week 5 during his rookie year.

In the 2024 season, Richardson played 11 games, completing 47.7% of his passes for 1,814 yards, throwing eight touchdowns versus 12 interceptions. Additionally, he showed his athleticism by rushing 86 times for 499 yards and six touchdowns.
