Colts

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor emphasized the need for the team to enhance their level of performance following their fourth consecutive season of missing the playoffs.

“I think the standard has to be raised,” Taylor stated, as reported by ESPN. “The playoffs have to be the standard. Teams that consistently make it each year have set that standard. That’s the baseline we need to achieve. It’s about understanding the challenge and committing to the goal of making the playoffs each season. We haven’t been in since 2020, and it’s time to establish that standard: ‘The Indianapolis Colts’ standard is the playoffs.’”

Indianapolis may see significant changes this offseason in their coaching staff and management. Quarterback Anthony Richardson, who was benched mid-season, is expected to receive another opportunity to demonstrate that he can be the franchise quarterback the team needs.

“Every year, every team is different,” Taylor noted. “Next week will be the last time all 53 players are in that locker room together. That’s the reality of this business. When a season doesn’t meet expectations, it can lead to more changes than usual.”

Jaguars

As former Jaguars quarterback and current Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich prepares to return to the NFL as a head coach, he reflected on nearly accepting the Jacksonville job before it was awarded to Doug Pederson. Leftwich denied claims that he declined the position due to conflicts with Jacksonville’s general manager Trent Baalke, asserting he was never actually offered the job.

“The rumors were baseless. I felt I was in a good position and hadn’t spoken with anyone. I understand the industry and know better than to discuss my situation while it’s happening,” Leftwich explained, according to Mike Jones of The Athletic. “I never turned down the job because it was never offered to me. There were various narratives out there, but I didn’t decline anything.”

“I was keen and prepared to take the Jacksonville job. It’s my former team, and I was genuinely interested in helping rectify their situation—fully committed to making a difference since I know the city, the fans, and I believe they possess talented players capable of winning.”

Texans

On Christmas Day, the Texans experienced a demoralizing defeat in Week 17, failing to score any offensive points in a 31-2 loss to the Ravens. Quarterback C.J. Stroud discussed how his perspective has shifted after a remarkable rookie season, taking responsibility for the team’s offensive difficulties.

“I’ve tried to approach each game as I did before, and I believe I’m observing things better than ever,” Stroud mentioned, as stated by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. “I’ve been a little banged up, which is no excuse, but ultimately, I just haven’t made enough plays. That’s the major difference between this year and last.”

“There are moments when the opportunities are there, and I need to ensure we capitalize on them to win. It falls on me to lead when there are open players, and I have to make those plays. That’s the essential difference I see between this season and last, and it’s something I can improve on.”

Despite entering the postseason with some of their least impressive performances, Stroud believes these experiences can serve as motivation to return to their expected level of play.

“What else can you do? Mope about it? It’s never easy, but it’s part of the game. Sometimes you just have a bad outing. Many have faced similar situations in their careers. I won’t pretend this is uncharted territory for me, but it’s necessary for a wake-up call. That’s what it is for me and for this team.”
