In a corresponding move, the Chargers have released safety Emany Johnson from their practice squad.

At 27 years old, Edmunds was selected as the No. 28 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers after a stellar college career at Virginia Tech. He completed a four-year rookie contract valued at $10,697,790, which included a signing bonus of $5,860,212.

After the Steelers declined his fifth-year option, Edmunds signed a one-year deal worth $2.5 million for the 2022 season. He briefly joined the Philadelphia Eagles before being traded to the Tennessee Titans.

This offseason, Edmunds joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was ultimately cut before being signed back to their practice squad. He later made a brief return to the Steelers’ active roster in September, before being released in November.

In 2024, Edmunds participated in six games between the Jaguars and the Steelers, tallying a total of seven tackles.
