Ezekiel Elliott, Ex-Cowboys RB, Successfully Clears Waivers
As reported by Ian Rapoport, former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has officially cleared waivers today.
The Dallas Cowboys released the veteran running back yesterday following his request, allowing him the opportunity to join a contending team.
Elliott, who is 29 years old, was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys in 2016 out of Ohio State. He signed a four-year rookie deal worth $24,956,342, which included a significant signing bonus of $16,350,068.
Initially slated to earn a base salary of $3.85 million for the 2019 season and $9.1 million under the fifth-year option in 2020, Elliott opted to hold out for a new contract in 2019. Subsequently, Dallas rewarded him with a six-year, $90 million extension that featured $50 million guaranteed.
Prior to the 2023 season, the Cowboys designated Elliott as a June 1 release. The New England Patriots later signed him to a one-year contract in August. He returned to the Cowboys on another one-year deal this offseason.
During the 2024 season, Elliott has participated in 15 games for the Cowboys, accumulating 226 rushing yards on 74 carries (3.1 yards per carry), along with 12 receptions for 69 yards and three touchdowns.
