Commanders

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn emphasized the significance of securing the sixth seed in the playoffs, making it unlikely that Washington will rest any starters this week.

We’re going to go after it as hard as we can,” Quinn stated, according to PFT. “I think the seeding portion of this is really important, and that’s what we discussed as a team. We felt that last night — the energy at the game was fantastic — and we think we left some plays out there. Therefore, leveling up in this week leading to the game against Dallas is vital for us. We recognize that having a sixth seed going into the playoffs can be a significant advantage, so we’re going to fight like hell to keep that.”

  • According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Commanders tight end Zach Ertz earned $750,000 in incentives for reaching six touchdowns, 600 yards, and 60 catches.
  • Ertz reflected on his comeback this season: “The past two years have been really tough for me as a player, so being here with people who truly believed in me, like Kliff and D.Q., has allowed me to perform at my best again. I’ve loved being a part of this team.” (Nicki Jhabvala)
  • Quinn mentioned that cornerback Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) continued rehabbing on the side field during Wednesday’s practice, via Ben Standig.

Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to rest several starters in Week 18, including running back Saquon Barkley, despite him being just 100 yards shy of the record for the most rushing yards in a single season. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni believes this is the best decision for the team.

“Many factors play into this decision. It’s a very special record that has stood for a long time, set by a great player, and it’s a team record that involves everyone,” he explained via Zach Berman. “Ultimately, the priority is doing what’s best for the team. It’s not an easy choice. It took discussions with many — players included — to arrive at this conclusion. We have great people in the organization and selfless players who want what’s best for the football team by getting some rest.”

Giants

The Giants ended the Colts’ postseason hopes in Week 17, breaking their 10-game winning streak thanks to QB Drew Lock‘s impressive 309 yards. New York head coach Brian Daboll believes consistent quarterback play could have led to such performances all season long.

“This is the level we expect from our offense and our quarterback,” Daboll said, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “When you perform well and win the turnover battle, you can score points and win games.”

“Good quarterback play gives you a chance in every game. By avoiding turnovers and making key plays at critical moments, coupled with being effective on third down and in the red zone, we can achieve success. Drew made excellent decisions, and we executed alerts well. That’s the foundation, followed by good complementary football.”

  • Daboll expressed that he maintains a “good working relationship” with GM Joe Schoen: “Communication is strong, and we discuss a variety of topics daily — from roster decisions to personnel.” (Dan Duggan)
