Lions Add Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to Their Roster
As reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Detroit Lions are set to sign quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
In addition, the Lions announced the signing of linebacker DaRon Gilbert to their practice squad.
Teddy Bridgewater, 32, was a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. He concluded the last year of his four-year, $6,849,502 rookie deal after Minnesota opted not to extend his fifth-year option.
He later signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the New York Jets, which included $500,000 guaranteed. Bridgewater was traded to the New Orleans Saints during the preseason and returned in 2019 on another one-year contract.
In 2020, the Carolina Panthers signed him to a three-year, $63 million deal, but he was subsequently traded to the Denver Broncos. Bridgewater joined the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal and had been exploring his options in free agency prior to signing with the Lions.
In the 2024 season, Bridgewater transitioned to coaching high school football, leading his alma mater, Miami Northwestern High, to a state championship in Florida.
During the 2022 season, Bridgewater played in five games for the Dolphins, throwing for four touchdowns and four interceptions, amassing 683 yards with a completion percentage of 62%.
