According to Adam Schefter, former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ambry Thomas is set to join the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad.

Previously, Schefter reported that the Indianapolis Colts had claimed Thomas off waivers from San Francisco but failed him on a physical examination.

Schefter added that the Colts believe Thomas’ forearm injury is not fully healed. Drew Rosenhaus, Thomas’ agent, mentioned, “My prediction is he will pass his next physical.”

At 25 years old, Thomas was a one-year starter at the University of Michigan and was named third-team All-Big Ten in 2020. The 49ers selected him with the 102nd pick in the third round of the draft.

He signed a four-year contract worth $4,785,850, including an $840,618 signing bonus.

Thomas suffered a forearm fracture in August, which has kept him off the field since then. The 49ers waived him from injured reserve.

In 2023, Thomas played in 15 games for the 49ers, recording 43 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception, and seven pass defenses.
