NFC Insights: Vita Vea, Michael Penix Jr., Buccaneers, Falcons, and Panthers
Buccaneers
Bucs Head Coach Todd Bowles asserts that Defensive Tackle Vita Vea is experiencing a standout season during his sixth year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I think it’s probably the best year I’ve seen him have since I’ve been here, and this is my sixth year having him,” Bowles remarked, as reported by Bucs Wire.
“From coming back in shape to playing hard every week, to using his hands more and becoming more of an unstoppable force. He used to rely on brute strength without employing technique, which often led to him getting stuck, but right now, he has the entire skill set working.”
Falcons
Falcons Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson downplays the concerns related to starting first-round Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at this stage of the season, despite the youth and inexperience of some players.
“Yeah, I don’t view it as a risk,” Robinson said, via PFT.
[O]bviously, he hasn’t accumulated the valuable game reps, but he’s been able to familiarize himself with the offense and understand the NFL schedule from Monday to Sunday. There are many unknowns for a young player, like what an NFL week feels like, experiencing wins and losses, and facing adversity as a team. He’s had the chance to observe a lot of ups and downs throughout the season, which has been beneficial for his perspective.”
Robinson believes these game experiences will be “valuable” for Penix’s growth.
“The game reps are valuable, obviously, but we feel great about where he stands at this point and everything he’s done to reach this stage.”
Panthers
Panthers Center Andrew Raym lauded Guard Robert Hunt for his uplifting presence as a teammate and for infusing positive energy into the locker room.
“Robert is probably the greatest personality we have in here,” Raym stated, according to David Newton of ESPN.
“He’s nothing short of love and happiness all the time. People enjoy talking to him. He always wears a smile and has something humorous to share. He prioritizes camaraderie and being with the team.”
Offensive Lineman Brady Christensen echoed this sentiment, noting that the offensive line draws energy from Hunt, viewing him as “one of the best guards in the NFL.”
“He loves the game,” Christensen emphasized. “His passion is evident in the way he plays—the energy and excitement he brings. We definitely feed off of him, as he truly is one of the best guards in the NFL.”
Panthers Offensive Coordinator Brad Idzik confirmed that Hunt’s energy is “infectious” across the entire offense.
“His energy,” Idzik noted. “It’s infectious. The plays you see, like when he’s celebrating downfield in Las Vegas or cheering when Chuba breaks free in Germany, that enthusiasm is palpable. You can sense that energy in practice every day. He’s loose, confident, and it shows in his game.”
