At 33 years old, Garoppolo was drafted in the second round by the New England Patriots in 2014. The Patriots traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 during the trade deadline, receiving a second-round pick for the 2018 NFL Draft in return.

Garoppolo was poised to become an unrestricted free agent when the 49ers signed him to a lucrative five-year, $137.5 million contract in the 2018 offseason.

In 2022, Garoppolo was scheduled to earn a base salary of $24.2 million but opted for a pay cut that included a no-tag clause. He later signed a three-year, $72.8 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, although he was eventually released by the team.

Garoppolo joined the Rams during the most recent offseason but faced a two-game suspension for violating the performance-enhancing substance policy.

In the 2023 season, Garoppolo made seven appearances for the Raiders, completing 65.5% of his passes for a total of 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
