Joshua Dobbs Named Starting Quarterback for 49ers in Week 18
According to Nick Wagoner, the San Francisco 49ers will start quarterback Joshua Dobbs in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals, as current QB Brock Purdy is dealing with an elbow injury.
Joshua Dobbs, 29, was a fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017. He spent the third year of his rookie contract with the Steelers before being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
After being waived by Jacksonville in September 2020, Dobbs was quickly claimed by the Steelers and re-signed to a one-year deal in 2021. He joined the Cleveland Browns in April 2022 but was released to make room for Deshaun Watson.
Subsequently, the Detroit Lions signed Dobbs to their practice squad in December 2022; however, he remained there for only a few weeks before the Tennessee Titans promoted him to their active roster.
Dobbs rejoined the Browns last offseason on a one-year deal, before being traded alongside a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Most recently, the Cardinals traded Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the 49ers for a 2024 sixth-round pick in October.
In the 2024 season, Dobbs has participated in one game for the 49ers, successfully completing three of four passes for a total of 35 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown run.
