NFC Updates: Ricky Pearsall, 49ers, and Seahawks
49ers
This past Week 17, 49ers first-round wide receiver Ricky Pearsall seized his opportunity, racking up an impressive 141 yards and a touchdown. After the game, Pearsall humbly noted that he was simply fulfilling his role.
“It felt good, but that’s what I’m supposed to do,” Pearsall stated, as reported by Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “That’s what they brought me here to do, so I’m going to continue to do that. I have all the confidence in the world in myself.”
Head Coach Kyle Shanahan praised Pearsall’s knack for winning against man coverage and converting almost every opportunity that came his way.
“He had better stats tonight, so that’s how it looks for receivers,” Shanahan commented. “When the ball came his way, he did a good job and made some key receptions. It doesn’t always work that way for wideouts, but when it did come to him, he performed well against man coverage and caught the ball effectively.”
- 49ers kicker Jake Moody faced backlash for his performance this season after missing two field goals and an extra point in the Week 17 loss to the Lions. However, Shanahan remains supportive, confirming Moody will start in their season finale: “He’s going to kick this week.” (PFT)
49ers
Prior to Monday Night’s matchup against the Lions, 49ers owner Jed York reassured reporters that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are not “going anywhere” this offseason.
“You can write that, for sure,” said York, according to ESPN. “They’re not going anywhere.”
Shanahan expressed his confidence in his “good relationship” with York and mentioned that he wasn’t surprised by the owner’s faith in him.
“I feel confident because I have a good relationship with Jed, and we communicate almost daily. So what I hear in the media doesn’t change much for me; it’s mostly about what we have between us,” Shanahan explained.
Lynch dismissed speculation surrounding Shanahan’s job security, calling it “comical.”
“I find the whole discussion about Kyle rather comical,” Lynch remarked. “We’ve won four of the last five division championships and have been to two Super Bowls. While we haven’t met the championship standard yet, we have an excellent head coach.”
Seahawks
Lions safety Jamal Adams revealed that he received an offer to rejoin the Seahawks following his release from the Titans.
“It was a while, man. I left during the bye week and came back to a situation that wasn’t going well. I felt I was wasting my time not being played. I wanted to find a place where I felt valued, so I spent some time with family after training for about ten weeks. When the call from Detroit came, it was a no-brainer for me. What an opportunity to chase a ring,” Adams shared, according to Tyler Dunne.
