NFC Insights: Marvin Harrison Jr., 49ers, Cardinals, and Seahawks Updates

49ers

49ers QB Brock Purdy expressed his disappointment about the season, which has been marred by injuries and unfortunate circumstances.

This year has been a mixture of ups and downs,” Purdy stated, as reported by NBC Sports. “I need to motivate our team and stay proactive. We have a talented roster with many core players from the past couple of years. What’s most frustrating is knowing we have the talent and culture, yet we haven’t been able to finish strong in several games.

Cardinals

Assessing the performance relative to other rookies, Cardinals first-round WR Marvin Harrison Jr. has had a decent season, recording 51 catches for 726 yards and seven touchdowns with two games remaining. However, given the lofty expectations for Harrison, often compared to elite prospects like Ja’Marr Chase or Calvin Johnson, it has turned into a disappointing year, which the Cardinals acknowledge.

“We need to improve,” said Cardinals QB Kyler Murray via Darren Urban of the team’s website. “This isn’t where he wants to be, it’s not acceptable for me, and it’s not what the team requires. But I haven’t lost confidence in him, and I look forward to the next two weeks.”

“This season has been beneficial for him to gain experience,” added Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon. “Having a first year with the QB, we all know we must improve collectively. I recognize the impact he can have on our offense, and we need to ensure he reaches his full potential.”

Cardinals WR coach Drew Terrell noted that Harrison’s positive contributions extend beyond statistics.

“The challenge lies in being evaluated based on others’ perceptions of success,” Terrell explained. “Most evaluations hinge on stats, which is the nature of our position. However, when you analyze the game tape and see impressive execution, that’s the true measure of success. Defenses have to respect him, and he demonstrates his skills on the field.”

Seahawks

Seahawks QB Geno Smith wasn’t inclined to dwell on his past performances or the team’s need for improvement as they push for postseason play.

“None of that really matters right now,” Smith remarked to NFL Media’s Bobby Kownack. “I’m just focused on the next game.”

“I think that doesn’t matter either,” he continued, referencing the current state of the offense. “What truly matters is preparing for our upcoming opponent. We have a challenging game ahead on Thursday night.”
