The Carolina Panthers have made it clear they are not looking to part ways with Bryce Young.
As noted by ESPN’s David Newton, the team is set to “actively search for an edge rusher” this offseason, utilizing free agency and the draft to address this need.
Young will get “a shot” at retaining the starting role in 2025, according to Newton.
After being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Young threw three interceptions in his first two games before being benched for veteran Andy Dalton. However, he reclaimed the starting position in Week 8 following Dalton’s thumb injury from a car accident and has remained the starter since then.
The 23-year-old quarterback may not have been perfect, but he has demonstrated considerable improvement since his return. In the seven starts following his benching, Young completed 60.6% of his passes, amassing 1,492 yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Dianna Russini from The Athletic reported Saturday that Panthers owner David Tepper is “thrilled” with Young’s development throughout the season.
In a recent week 15 game against the Dallas Cowboys, Young committed a career-high four turnovers in a 40-14 loss. Nevertheless, he remains a candidate for the starting quarterback position in 2025.
With a record of 3-11, the Panthers are in the running for a top draft pick in 2025. Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski recently projected that Carolina would select Tennessee edge James Pearce Jr. with the No. 5 overall pick in his latest mock draft.
While looking to strengthen their defensive line in the offseason, the Panthers do not anticipate searching for a replacement for Young.
