Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is reportedly facing challenges in his quest to be the first quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Miami’s quarterback Cam Ward currently leads the pack for the top signal-caller spot. Sanders will need to “nail the interview process” to secure the QB1 title.

“Miami’s Cam Ward has taken the early lead in the competition for the draft’s QB1, while Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders has several supporters among NFL teams,” wrote Howe. “For Sanders, acing the interview process will be essential to firmly position himself among the top two quarterbacks, according to various NFL evaluators.”

Ward’s impressive performance in 2024 strengthens his case for being the top quarterback. He completed the season with 4,123 yards, 36 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, achieving a completion percentage of 67.4. The 22-year-old was recognized as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, guiding the Hurricanes to a solid 10-2 record and earning a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Sanders also had a notable season, throwing for 3,926 yards, with 35 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while achieving a remarkable 74.2 completion percentage. He was celebrated as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, leading Colorado to a commendable 9-3 record in the regular season.

Both Ward and Sanders are set to participate in their respective Bowl Games. Following these games, they will shift their focus to the scouting circuit and the 2025 NFL Combine, aiming to showcase their skills to prospective teams for the next level.
