Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers remained uncertain about his future during a recent press conference, leaving fans and analysts wondering whether he will return for his senior season or declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

“I’m not sure yet; I’m just trying to win these [College Football Playoff] games,” Ewers told reporters. “I haven’t thought about anything beyond that.”

However, insiders suggest that Ewers is leaning towards entering the NFL:

Sources say Quinn Ewers still plans to declare for the NFL Draft after this season, paving the way for Arch Manning to take over in 2025. Manning is locked in with Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian, with no plans to transfer. Right now, both are focused on Clemson. pic.twitter.com/BYdC5EIgFG

Should Ewers declare for the draft, the Longhorns are well-positioned for the future, as highly-touted recruit Arch Manning awaits his chance. Manning, nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, has impressed in his limited play with 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions, boasting a 67.8% completion rate this season.

Even if Ewers decides to return, a true quarterback competition may be in the Longhorns’ best interest. Manning’s patience behind Ewers needs to be rewarded, as he deserves a shot at the starting role.

Notably, Ewers has produced solid numbers this season, throwing for 2,665 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while completing 66.2% of his passes. He has guided Texas to a consecutive College Football Playoff appearance, with a matchup against Clemson set for December 21 at 4 p.m. ET (TNT, HBO Max).

However, questions loom over whether Ewers has significantly boosted his draft stock this year. In two losses against Georgia, he managed 569 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions while facing relentless pressure, resulting in 11 sacks and two fumbles—performances that may not impress NFL scouts.

According to Mel Kiper Jr., Ewers is currently ranked fifth among quarterbacks on his draft board, following Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cam Ward, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, and Georgia’s Carson Beck.

Although this year’s quarterback draft class appears relatively weak, Ewers could still be a viable second or third-round pick. However, would another season at Texas elevate his status to first-round caliber?

It’s difficult to determine at this point. For now, Ewers is focused solely on the upcoming game against Clemson. Nevertheless, his decision following the conclusion of the Longhorns’ season will be a topic of great interest for fans in Austin and NFL evaluators alike.
