    Bleacher Report

A shocking victory has altered the 2025 NFL draft order for the second consecutive week.

The New York Giants unexpectedly defeated the Indianapolis Colts, which not only affected their own draft position but also eliminated the Colts from playoff contention.

This surprising win has launched the New England Patriots into the top spot of the projected draft order.

As Week 18 approaches, New England, New York, the Tennessee Titans, and the Cleveland Browns all hold a record of 3-13, maintaining their chances for the No. 1 overall pick.

The Patriots currently hold the best draft position among these teams. However, it’s highly anticipated that one of these clubs will secure the first overall pick, with Week 18 wins being unlikely for all four teams.

The Giants’ unexpected victory over the Colts has caused them to slide from the No. 1 pick to No. 4 in the latest draft order.

Entering Week 17, the Giants were set atop the draft order, bolstered by the Las Vegas Raiders’ previous win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With this win, the Giants have reduced competition for the top pick, but the consequences could be significant for their offseason plans.

Franchise quarterbacks might not be readily available at the No. 4 spot, as Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are currently the only feasible first-round prospects and may end up with Tennessee or Cleveland.

This new draft position could lead the Giants to consider options in the veteran quarterback market, which would likely be a more costly approach compared to securing a top-five pick.

On a positive note, the Giants can appreciate Malik Nabers as their key wide receiver, who excelled with 171 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The main challenge now for the Giants is determining which quarterback will be supporting Nabers in the 2025 season and beyond.

New England Takes Lead in Pursuit of the Top Pick

The New England Patriots couldn’t be positioned more favorably at this point.

They currently possess the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick while also having their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye.

With the top pick, New England could select standout players like Travis Hunter or one of the premier offensive linemen available in the draft.

Alternatively, they could trade the top pick to acquire additional assets to support Maye, particularly since the quarterback class is relatively shallow this year and many teams are in desperate need of a quarterback.

Ultimately, the Patriots only need to lose against the Buffalo Bills in Week 18 to solidify their chances for the top pick.

However, losing to the Bills may not be straightforward, as Buffalo is already secured in the No. 2 seed, possibly leading to the Patriots’ starters securing a win and further altering the draft order.
