Dan Campbell: Teddy Bridgewater Signing Doesn’t Reflect Disappointment in Hendon Hooker
Lions head coach Dan Campbell recently addressed the media regarding the team’s decision to sign quarterback Teddy Bridgewater during a Thursday press conference.
Bridgewater, who had been away from the NFL this season after winning a state championship as a high school football coach in Miami, expressed his desire to return to the league. The announcement of his signing by the Lions came earlier in the day. Campbell confirmed that the organization had been in contact with Bridgewater for some time, emphasizing that he brings a level of “professionalism” to the team as they gear up for the postseason.
Campbell clarified that the addition of Bridgewater was not a reflection of any disappointment in Hendon Hooker, the third-round pick from 2023 who has served as Jared Goff’s backup throughout the season. He noted that Hooker has shown improvement each week, but highlighted that the playoffs represent “a different world,” which underscores the importance of Bridgewater’s experience.
If all goes according to plan for the Lions, both Bridgewater and Hooker will act as observers during the playoffs. However, the team now has a backup option should they need to shift their strategy at any point.
